As we saw with Manchester United on Sunday, even the top teams can be on the wrong side of a drubbing! Once a team's heads drop and your opponents smell blood, things can get ugly...fast! That was the certainly the case in this match as a dominant performance from Tide saw them pick up their first three points of the season, after a ruthless 25-3 victory over Allica Bank.
Tide came racing out the blocks, storming into a 3-0 lead within the first few minutes of the game. Before clinical finishes from Liam Thomas and Connor MacMillan inflicted further damage on the Allica defence, who looked completely bemused at what they were seeing. Wave after wave of attack followed from a slick looking Tide team.
Allica clawed one back just before half time, with an instinctive finish from David Akpara, but with Tide hitting double figures before the break, it would have required a Real Madrid style comeback in the second half. Sadly for Allica, they didn't have a Modric or Benzema to bring off the bench and the second half followed a similar pattern to the first.
Some excellent attacking play from James Forrester and Andrew Denholm saw them both etch their names into the scoresheet, which was spilling over onto a second page. Allica to their credit, didn’t let their heads drop and there were no Fernandes style tantrum. The fans will be proud that despite the disappointing defeat the team continued pressing and fighting until the final whistle.
Lewis Fail scored the final goal in the game to make the scores 25-3, celebrating his consolation with a Chloe Kelly-esque swing of the shirt, which sums up what kind of night it was for Allica. We've seen teams bounce back from big defeats in the past and it will be interesting to see how Allica respond.
Having been on the receiving end of a narrow defeat in the first week, Tide will hope to carry this momentum on to matchday three where they face off against Curve. Group B looks like being extremely tight and Tide will hope to be right in the mix after this statement win!
Final Score: Tide 25 vs 3 Allica
Man of the Match: Connor MacMillan (Tide)
