Revolut Take the Bragging Rights in ‘Battle of the Banks’

When it’s not your night, it’s not your night. That’s how Monzo will feel after a disappointing 12-2 defeat to bitter rivals Revolut, in their opening game of the Fintech Football Championship.

After a tight first 5 minutes or so, a quick fire double opened the flood gates and Monzo were left chasing the game. Whilst Revolut were fantastic, Monzo and their fans will feel as though the second goal really summed up their evening, Monzo’s centre back played a long ball up field, the ball cannoned off the Revolut striker and nestled into the bottom corner.

It was an impressive performance from Revolut, who are now the early bookies favourites for the title, man of the match Ioan Gherman pulled the strings in midfield and the team shared the goals out evenly with Gherman, Asaaf, Nzsdjean and Fraccaroli all bagging hat-tricks. Manager Marley Ali will be particularly impressed with the ruthlessness they showed in front of goal and the team will go into their clash with Modulr next week, full of confidence.

Monzo Manager Oliver Pickering will have a big job to lift the team for their Clash with Onfido on Thursday.

Man of the Match: Ioan Gherman
