If this match is anything to go by, the quality of football in the newly launched Group B of the FFC, looks set to be very high. Payoneer and TrueLayer played out a blinder and will be two teams to watch closely in this league.
In the end Payoneer picked up all three points with a 8-5 win, but both teams will take plenty of positives from their performances and will expect to be contenders come the end of the season.
The opening goal of Payoneer’s season was scored by the mercurial Joshua Harrop in controversial fashion, as the True Layer defence stopped in anticipation of a free kick being awarded. A poor goal to concede, and Payoneer’s lead was almost doubled if not for an excellent save from TrueLayer’s keeper Adi who got down quickly to palm the ball onto the crossbar.
Captain Rajan Sokhal added a second for Payoneer with a low driven shot from the left wing, sending the crowd into pandemonium. The impressive Sokhal was then inches from extending the lead with a rasping drive from inside his own half, which smacked off the crossbar to the relief of the TrueLayer defence.
This seemed to jolt TrueLayer into life, as they found their way back into the game with a strike from Will Ginzo, following a free-flowing attack. The Payoneer defence was creaking and Luke Jones took full advantage, netting twice in the latter stages of the half to put TrueLayer ahead at the break.
Seconds after the restart, and Payoneer levelled the scores after being awarded a penalty for infringement. The goal really knocked the stuffing out of TrueLayer, and their misery was compounded by further goals from Harrop and Sokhal.
Ben Morris struck back for TrueLayer with a mazy solo dribble to give them a glimmer of hope, but a late strike from Kola Adedoyin ensured that Payoneer picked up all three points.
TrueLayer will be disappointed to come away from this game with nothing, after creating some good chances. Payoneer on the other hand will be thrilled with the three points, an excellent start to the season for them as they face off against Hammock next week!
