The inaugural fixture of the newly formed Fintech Football Championship league saw Allica face off against Curve, in what was a thrilling encounter. Curve capped off a dominant performance with an 8-2 victory, cementing their place as one of the bookie’s early favourites for the league.
Curve dominated the opening stages and opened the scoring very early on with an excellent solo goal from Tope Ajayi. Within the blink of an eye, Ajayi had his second, a clinical penalty into the side netting.
Two goals down in nearly as many minutes, Allica were forced to change their game plan earlier than anticipated, pushing more players forward to try and half the deficit. They created some excellent chances but lacked the cutting edge in front of goal to find the back of the net. A combination of some wasteful finishing and good goalkeeping from Curve’s Richard meant that Allica remained goalless. After a five minute period of consistent and excellent attacking play from Allica, led by Tom Easton and Juba Lakrimi, the goal finally came….. for Curve.
A devastating counterattack from Francis Darby added a third for Curve, and the context of the game changed completely. Francis added his second from the spot shortly after and completed his hat trick with the final kick of the first half.
An impressive first half from Curve but Allica would have been disappointed that they had the chances to be well in the game, they just couldn't take them.
Curve came out to the second half in similar fashion to the first, showing no signs of complacency and a deflected strike from Ben McNulty saw them extend their lead.
Allica to their credit, defended well in the second half, and scored their first goal of the season with a long range strike from Tom Easton. It was a quiet second half from both sides, with the damage already done in the first half of the game. Captain Juba Lakrimi added a consolation for Allica, as the scores finished 8-2 to Curve.
Allica Bank will play Tide in week 2, whilst Curve will have play a friendly.
Final Score: Allica 2 vs 8 Curve
Man of the Match: Tope Ajayi
